Geesaman said he saw the young black bear coming up the stairs to investigate a nearby trash can when he was working on the hotel’s overnight shift and wanted to catch a glimpse of the sunrise on the hotel’s rear veranda.

Geesaman said he notified members of the staff and stood guard to prevent any guests from stumbling on the bear.

Geesaman said, “While following behind it attempting to usher it to the nearest exit, the bear decided to hop up on the rail and enjoy the sunrise as I had intended to do myself.”

After he made a few loud stomps and claps, the bear headed to the nearest wooded area.

He said the hotel works to notify every guest that they’re staying in bear country and that they shouldn’t approach a bear.

He said that the hotel took all precautions to prevent wildlife from discovering food scraps around the resort, he said, “They need to be left alone when they show themselves in public places.”
